Engaged!

behold!

on the left is matt's wedding band. it was his grandpa's wedding band. custom made in alaska for a famous alaskan. Ward was a hunting and fishing guide, one of the first bush pilots, and founded SeaAirmotive in Anchorage in 1944. my ring was his grandmother's and she graciously passed it on to me. it was made by the daughter of a jewelry shop owner for herself. her father saw it and told her she couldn't afford it and that she had to sell it. so not only is it unique, it also has a back story. pretty neat!

our engagement story isn't some glamorous affair, but for anyone who is curious here it is...

for matt's birthday i took him for a weekend in Staunton, Virginia. it's a really neat small town in the middle of western virginia near the Shenandoah Valley west of Charlottesville. we went to devil's backbone brewery and veritas winery. after the winery we realized he left his id at the brewery's bar so we were heading back. marriage (or the future) came up- i dont remember how exactly- but i basically i asked him if he wanted to get married. we've talked about it briefly before, but not with such intent. so we discussed and mulled over it for a bit asking each other questions about it. and we decided heck yes! no ring, no public surprises or hidden cameras, and no pretense. just two adults driving down the road in a beat up pick-up truck in rural virginia who decided together that we want to be together forsaking all others. just the way i wanted.
